This weekend workshop series is designed for yoga teachers seeking to deepen their understanding of hands-on assisting as a precise, ethical, and embodied practice. Rooted in respect for the intelligence of the body and the lineage of yogāsana, this training explores when, why, and how to assist -- always in service of the student’s own experience.
Across the series, participants will study the structure of asanas through the lens of anatomy and the intended asana sthiti "state of the asana". Once this foundation is established, trainees will learn the appropriate cues and assists that are chosen based on breath, energy, and consent. Trainees will learn to guide students with clarity, confidence, and care.
What You Will Learn
Offer effective, supportive, and ethical hands-on assists
Use verbal cueing as the primary tool, with touch as a refinement rather than a correction
Assist safely and skillfully -- and know when not to assist
Develop confidence through hands-on practice, feedback, and observation
Read the body to understand appropriate direction, depth, and timing
Refine the power of touch -- direction, duration, and intensity all matter
Work with breath and subtle energy when assisting
Ask clear questions and receive feedback on assisting choices
